Very slow easy run before work. Ran the High Line and Hudson River path. So sore from cross fit class! I should have skipped this run.

95 minute advanced vinyassa class at Shala Yoga House. This class was probably too advanced for me. A lot I couldn't do!

Long run on Hudson/East River Paths from home to Fulton Street and back. Brutally hot and humid, so I ran extra slow to mitigate suffering. 9:2x first half and 8:5x second half. I still suffered.

I'm back in a rhythm with training again, finally, after moving to NYC this year and recovering from my stress reaction in tibia from last year. Been running less than 20 miles a week all summer, and want to start bringing the miles up again. Will be using the blog again to track miles.

Easy run on Hudson River Path (south). Ran the piers down to Battery Park City and back. Another hot one, so I took it slow again, about 9:00 pace.

Cross fit-type strength class after work today. I have done a few of these classes recently. I think the format encourages slopppy form. It is high reps of different strength or cardio moves for a set number of minutes, and then you rotate stations. I might be done with these.

Progression run in Central Park after work. Did the big loop (so I could run the Harlem Hills, as it is so flat in NYC!) and the Bridle trail where it was parallel. Last three miles at 8:1x. Then 5 strides. Felt almost cool tonight, relatively speaking. I love running in Central Park. The energy is amazing. It is like race day because there are so many people out...interesting people!

Open level vinyassa class at Sacred Sounds Yoga in Greenwich Village. One of the best yoga classes I have been to so far in NYC. One thing I really miss about San Diego is my yoga teacher, Sarah! And hummingbirds!

Long run through NYC. Today was the last Saturday of Summer Streets, where they close down Park Ave. for 7 miles from E. 72nd Street all the way down to the Brooklyn Bridge. Since it is NYC, there were big sponsors at every rest station--a huge inflatable slide and beach scene (with sand) at Folely Square, a 100 m dash by Nike with 12 foot tall photos of Olympic track stars (and Serena), a zip line, etc.--but no bathrooms.

It was a great run, and I regret not taking advantage of Summer Streets on prior weekends! I ran with easy/moderate effort and then a faster finish. My GPS was whacked because of running among the skysrapers along Park. But I think it was probably about 11 miles in 90 minutes. This is the longest run I have done this year. I felt really good!

Yin yoga class at Intergral Yoga.

5 miles easy, early on the Hudson River path. Tropical humidty. Ran the golf range at Chelsea Piers and down to Battery Park City and back. Took it very easy, most miles at 9:0x, as my legs were feeling zapped from yesterday's awesome long run. Rest day tomorrow.

Ran home from work today. Had taken a few days off to let my legs recover from my long run over the weekend. Was feeling sore in lower legs but all gone today.

Run commute again this evening. I'm so busy at work, so this is a good way to get a run in because the run home takes the same amount of time as the subway home.

Did you know Harlem is awesome? What a beautiful course through a nice park, by amazing old buildings with cool stone work, and some varying topography (my part of Manhattan is totally flat!). Great race!

My plan was to see how close I could get to 7:00 miles; I thought 7:00 was about my 5K pace right now. I knew there was a decent sized hill at the end of mile 1, but it was totally manageable. I finished the first mile in 7 flat. The rest of the course was mostly flat. My second mile was just under 7. The last mile started with a really nice downhill. This allowed me to recover and finish fast. The last mile point one was at about 6:35 pace.

I was really happy to race again. First one since February 2015! On the other hand, my average pace was 6:55 - which was roughly my 2014 half marathon pace. I guess I also have to take into account the weather - 80 F with 58% humidity, sunny, but no wind. Still, lots of room for improvement. And hopefully the improvements will come without more injuries!

Plus 16 miles on bike today. 8 miles to race and 8 miles home; subway service on weekends is terrible!

Easy run along Hudson River. Ran the piers south to WTC and back home. I got a late start today and didn't get out until afternoon. It was really hot! 8:30 average pace.

Long, easy run after work. Did first 5 miles in Central Park with a co-worker, and then ran 4 miles from the park to home along Hudson River path. 8:3x pace. Was pretty tired toward the end; need a rest day after 3 days in a row.
